Thousand needles has hardly any iron ore. Its full of Copper and tin ore. So you're wrong there, only has a few :/. Tanaris has hardly any iron ore or any ore at all so you're wrong there too. I went everywhere in Tanaris and found only 1 ore and 1 mithril ore. The locations above isn't very good at all, its just a waste of time.

When someone with the ore gets close enough to the ore grinder you can right click it to complete the criteria. Boss has to die to award the achievement. you can track the achievement and if it turns white during the fight that means you got the ore into the ore grinder, meaning you can then kill the boss.
