In this study, coal fly ash was functionalized, using a simple onestep process (loading with Al3+ and sulfonation), to yield a solid acid catalyst (S/AlCFA) with strong acid sites. The catalyst was then used to produce furfural from xylose in a biphasic system (H2O(NaCl)/tetrahydrofuran). The furfural yield reached 82% at 180 °C60 min with catalyst/xylose ratio of : (w/w).

Study on the mass transfer of SO2 in ammoniabased desulfurization process

The coal hydrogen production process requires hightemperature steam as a reactant. Coalfired boilers are usually used to provide hightemperature steam. The ammoniabased desulphurization process is an effective technology to remove SO2 in the coalfired flue gas. However, the mass transfer coefficient of SO2 in such an engineered process is not readily available in the literature. In this ...

Dry flue gas desulfurization process for various coals

Flue gas desulfurization (FGD) processes have been widely used since the early 1970's for control of sulfur dioxide emissions from coalfired power plants. First generation FGD systems employ ''wet processes'' whereby the flue gas is contacted with a solution or slurry of an alkali reagent. Most of these installations use either lime or limestone.

Coal is the dominant fossil energy in China and continues to play an important role in the next few decades [1].However, during coal direct utilization processes, some sulfurcontaining gases (H 2 S, SO 2 and COS, etc) would release into the air, and cause some seriously environmental pollution [2].Thus, some highsulfur coals need to be desulfurized before their utilization.
